Senator Rod Culleton
A website and social media presence that took a first-term Senator's work straight to the people of Western Australia.
Rod Culleton was elected to the Senate for Western Australia at the 2016 federal election. His maiden speech, described by many as one of the best the Senate has heard, spoke for farmers across the country who were losing their properties and livelihoods at the hands of the banks, and he campaigned hard for a Royal Commission into the banks.
The brief was to use a website and social media to share Rod's Senate work with his constituents, hear their feedback and help people understand the legislation and issues affecting Western Australia, especially banking and his call for a Royal Commission.
We designed and managed his website, and his Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts, and looked after media liaison and PR. Our content ideas matched Rod's larrikin sense of humour, so people wanted to share it and comment on it.
In January 2017 the President of the Senate removed Rod over a purported bankruptcy. He was the only MP to be removed from Parliament without his case going before the Court of Disputed Returns. In late 2017 Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced the Royal Commission into the banks that Rod had campaigned for.
At its peak, Rod's Facebook page reached 317,400 unique people in a month, with 928,900 views.
