Six winning council campaigns in Queensland and New South Wales, plus a two-week social media push that got a Liberal candidate elected, with the second Liberal only just missing out.
Local government is where politics is closest to home. Council candidates usually run without a party machine behind them, on a small budget, against people their community already knows. Every vote is won street by street.
Poli PR has run council campaigns in Queensland and New South Wales. Here are three candidates who hired us for the full campaign: campaign strategy, branding, website, social media, advertising and printed material. All three were elected, and two came back to us for their re-election campaigns.
Cr David Hardie, Blackall-Tambo Regional Council (Qld)
We ran David's campaign when he was first elected to Blackall-Tambo Regional Council in March 2020, and again when he was re-elected in March 2024. He now serves as the region's Deputy Mayor.
Cr Richard Foley, Wagga Wagga City Council (NSW)
We ran Richard's campaign when he was first elected to Wagga Wagga City Council in December 2021, at the delayed 2021 NSW local government elections, and again when he was re-elected to a second term in September 2024.
Cr Russell Milligan, Ipswich City Council (Qld)
We ran Russell's campaign when he was elected as the Division 4 councillor for Ipswich City Council in March 2020. He served one four-year term. In 2024 Russell ran again as an independent, but lost to a well-known former Labor member of the Queensland Parliament. The social media and printed material shown here are from that 2024 campaign.
Two weeks, one seat
Not every campaign needs months. For a group of Liberal council candidates, we ran an aggressive social media campaign that lasted just two weeks. The lead candidate was elected, and the second candidate in the group missed out on a seat by a very small margin.
